12 days safari in Uganda, primates and Kidepo Valley

This 12-day Uganda safari combines the national parks of Kidepo Valley, Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth Park and Bwindi Gorilla Park. Unlike the usual Uganda safari itineraries, this 12-day trip includes the Kidepo Valley, unknown to many but still a true example of Uganda tourism. Kidepo is home to over 86 species of mammals and 500 species of birds. This trip will therefore include game viewing safaris, boat trips, chimpanzee tracking, gorilla trekking, authentic cultural encounters and much more. The trip starts and ends at Entebbe Airport or Kampala.
Detailed safari program
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport
Welcome to Uganda! On your arrival at Entebbe airport, you will be picked up by a French-speaking driver from Zizou Tours And Travel. Transfer to the hotel and rest.
Day 2: Welcome and transfer to Gulu, followed by rhinos
On the first day of this 12-day Uganda safari, you will be welcomed again by our professional driver guide who will give you information about the safari, then you will embark for the national park of the Kidepo Valley, home to untouched and unparalleled wilderness. Along the way, you will stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track the rhinos, then continue your journey with lunch en route. After lunch, you will travel to Gulu for dinner and overnight at Churchill Hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park – afternoon safari
Early morning breakfast and wait for your driver guide to drive to Kidepo Valley National Park. On arrival, you settle in at the lodge and have lunch. Rest until evening safari time. You will be able to observe herds of elephants, zebras, bush pigs, buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, oribis, eland, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetahs black-backed and side-backed, werewolves, striped hyenas, caracals, greater and lesser kudus, African wild dogs and kiplings, among others. After the safari, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Morning safari and Karamojong cultural tour
After an early breakfast, on the fourth day of the 12-day Uganda safari, you meet your driver-guide to return to the park. This time you will take a morning safari through the tracks to the Narus Valley. This valley has a high concentration of animals that are attracted to its water sources. During the dry season especially, it becomes the best place to find all the animals, even those you may have missed in other parts of the park. Buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs and others can be seen drinking in the valley. Among the different bird species are ostriches, Karamojong apalis and others. After the morning safari, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you will take part in an interesting cultural tour. You will be able to interact with the Karamojong people who live in the neighboring villages. They are known for remaining true to their cultural identity. You will learn about their culture, traditions and way of life, see the Karamojong manyattas (farms), hear their traditional songs and dances, and much more. Return to the lodge after the cultural visit.
Day 5: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
On this day, you will wake up and have breakfast. Depart from the lodge to your safari vehicle and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. You settle into your lodge and rest the rest of the day. The drive from Kidepo to Murchison Falls Park takes between 5 and 6 hours depending on the location of your lodge.
Day 6: Morning safari and afternoon boat cruise
Departure from your lodge for a morning safari after breakfast. After an early breakfast, on the fifth day of this 12-day Uganda safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge for a morning game drive during which you can observe various animals such as Uganda kobs, warthogs, giraffes , elephants, bush pigs, lions, leopards, hyenas, Jacksons hartebeest, different species of birds and many more. After the safari, you will return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you will go to Paraa pier for a boat cruise to the base of the falls. You will be fascinated by the sight of animals like elephants, buffaloes and antelopes gathering to drink water, hippos and crocodiles in the water, a variety of bird species like martins fishermen, fish eagles, bee-eaters, hornbills, among others. After the cruise, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Transfer to Kibale National Park
Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will leave the lodge to begin your long journey to Kibale National Park. This park is home to Africa’s largest concentration of chimpanzees and many other primate species, numbering up to 12. Besides chimpanzees, Kibale is home to red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys , Vervet monkeys, olive baboons, blue monkeys, gray-cheeked mangabeys and many more. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Chimpanzee tracking and walk in the Bigodi swamp in the Kibale forest
After breakfast, you will go looking for chimpanzees in the Kibale forest. During your search, expect to see lots of birds, other primate species and forest mammals like elephants, bush pigs and duikers, warthogs and others. Reptiles, amphibians and a variety of butterflies can be seen. Return to the Lodge for lunch.
After lunch, walk around the Bigodi marsh area, looking for wetland bird species and primates. Kibale Forest is home to over 335 species of birds and is therefore an ideal place for bird lovers. Return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 9: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kazinga Canal Cruise
After enjoying your morning coffee, you will leave the park and embark for Queen Elizabeth National Park. Depending on the time you have, you can stop to take photos of the tea plantations and crater lakes as you leave Kibale. On arrival, you settle into your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, boat safari on the Kazinga canal to observe many animals and birds. The Kazinga Channel is a phenomenon that connects Lake George and Lake Edward. It is a center of attraction for savannah and aquatic fauna. You can see hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, many birds and others. Return to the lodge and rest after the cruise.
Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After your early breakfast, you will leave for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. En route, lunch and stop at Ishasha where you can observe lions climbing trees. Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Arrival at Bwindi Lodge, refreshments, dinner and overnight.
Day 11: Gorilla Trekking – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing and set off for gorilla trekking. Gorilla tracking is an exciting adventure where you will be treated to an hour with the gorillas to learn their behaviors, feed, play, build their nest and capture videos for your future memories. After the trek, return on foot to the meeting point to receive your certificate that you have completed the Pearl of Africa gorilla trek. Then return to the lodge for the rest of the day.
Day 12: Departure for Kampala
After an early breakfast, on the last day of this 12-day safari, you will leave the park and begin the journey back to Kampala, with lunch en route and a stopover in Ecuador. Take advantage of the last moments of the safari to take photos and buy souvenirs. Continuation of the journey to Entebbe airport, arrival in the early evening. On arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your departing flight or drop you off at a location of your choice. End of your 12-day safari in Uganda: wildlife, primates and Kidepo Valley.
